I was surrounded by Kuia growing up. Beautiful, maternal, caring individuals who had experienced much pain and much joy. These elderly w\u0101hine had a story for every line etched on their faces. Sun weathered, peering eyes would strip you apart, exposing truths and lies, wrapping you in a big hug. Laughing and loving with their loud voices, oversized shirts, and hard-working hands. I hold great respect for these family women, always settling disputes, cooking for large amounts of people, seeing everywhere at once. Greatly respected and adored in their families.<\/p>\n
